The total premium of the insurance sector in Serbia in the 1st quarter of 2010 amounted to RSD 14.1 billion - an increase of 2.4% over the same period last year, said National Bank of Serbia. This is the expected result of the impact of financial crisis, through exposure of the insurance sector to, among others, risks from falling demand for insurance products, said the report of NBS. Within the structure of premium, participation of non-life insurance in the 1st quarter of 2010 amounted to 86.1%, while the share of life insurance amounted to 13.9%. Increase in the participation of life insurance from 12.8% in the same period last year is a consequence of the increase of insurance premium of 11%, and modest growth of non-life insurance premiums of 1.1% in the 1st quarter of 2010. The structure of the premium in the 1st quarter of 2010 is similar to the structure in the same period last year.
