The Russian oil giant Gazprom, through its daughter company Gazprom Neft, is coming to Croatia. An oil consultant Jasminko Umicevic, said, passing on the information from the professional circles, that Gazprom Neft has the greatest potential to enter the Croatian and BiH market. "They are opening a branch office in Zagreb very soon", said Umicevic during 4th Energy Arena, held in Zagreb. That was confirmed by sources close to the Russian company, which is also the majority owner of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS).

The director of the company, it is said, will be Boris Medvedev, a former Minister adviser of the Russian Federation Embassy in Croatia and it is very likely that Gazprom Neft is focusing on exploration concessions for which allegedly they were already interested, but the two-phase gain of concessions (one for research and the other for exploitation) prevented it. The Mining Law should simplify that so the competition could finally intensify and the race would begin.
